March Is a Time for Vacations, Particularly for us Midwestern’s!

Before you go and drive off in a rental car make sure you know what coverage your auto policy provides you! As a follow up to our previous rental car blog here is a scenario!

You and a friend are going to Arizona to watch spring baseball. Your friend decides to rent a car in his name and does not list you as a driver on the contract. Are you covered?

  1. You are not covered under the friend’s policy unless you are a named driver on their auto policy or are a blood relative.
  2. You are also not covered under your own auto policy because non-owned autos are covered if the owner of the car (the rental car company) has given permission to someone (you) to drive their vehicle. Technically you would be driving without their permission if you are not listed on the rental agreement.
